WHAT IS STAINLESS STEEL 317L?

Stainless Steel 317L is an austenitic alloy made up of chromium and nickel, which contains molybdenum in addition. It shows a great resistance to corrosion in extreme temperatures and it therefore much preferred over other materials. Due to low carbon content, stainless steel 317L offers better immunity to inter-granular corrosion in applications where low temperature stress relieving treatments are desired or in which heavy cross sections cannot be annealed after welding.

It shows higher creep, stress-to-rupture and tensile strengths as compared to other stainless steels. It also puts up great resistance against pitting and crevice corrosion making. Stainless Steel 317L is cheaper, has low maintenance cost and is thus being increasingly used in many industries.
