Stainless Steel 347 Fasteners
Stainless steels are iron based alloys containing at least 10.5% Chromium. They achieve their stainless characteristics through the formation of an invisible and adherent Chromium rich oxide film. Alloy 347 is a general purpose austenitic Stainless steel with a face centred cubic structure. It is essentially non-magnetic in the annealed condition and can only be hardened by cold working. Niobium has been added to suppress grain boundary Chromium Carbide precipitation.
Stainless Steel 347 Fasteners are used extensively throughout industry for both original equipment manufacture as well as for replacement. The stainless steel fastener materials are identified as the B8 class of alloys and are identified in the ASTM Specification A193/193M (Standard Specification for Alloy Steel and Stainless Steel Bolting Materials for High Temperature Service). The corresponding nut specification is ASTM Specification A194/194M.
