WHAT IS 904L?
904L is a grade of austenitic stainless steel that is a nickel and copper based alloy. It has low carbon content and high amount of molybdenum. The alloy offers excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and crevice corrosion in extreme environments. It also displays superior resistance to warm seawater and chloride attack. The copper content elevates its resistance to strong reducing acids, such as sulphuric acid and other reducing agents in both aggressive and mild conditions. It is non-magnetic and offers excellent formability, toughness and weld ability.
