WHAT IS INCOLOY 825?
Incoloy 825 is a super alloy formed by the mixture of nickel, chromium and iron, with additions of copper, molybdenum and titanium. It is well known for its exceptional corrosion resistance properties against various corrosive environments such as sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, sour gases, oil wells and even sea water. It also fights chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking fairly well.
The molybdenum content in Incoloy 825 offers great resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, the chromium component is responsible for offering resistance to a variety of oxidizing substances such as nitric acid, nitrates, and oxidizing salts and titanium generally serves to stabilize the alloy against sensitization to intergranular corrosion.
Incoloy 825 is an extremely useful alloy in various applications. It is utilised in manufacturing Calorifiers, Electrostatic precipitator electrodes, hot vessels for food, water and seawater, ammonium sulphate vessels, Expansion bellows and Marine exhaust systems. It is also used in power plants and nuclear reactors.
