WHAT IS INCOLOY 800?
Incoloy 800 is an alloy made of nickel, iron and chromium that has superior strength and excellent resistance to oxidation and carburization in high-temperature atmospheres. It is also resistant to many aqueous environments. The alloy gets its excellent resistant properties due to the presence of chromium, which also contributes in resistance to scaling and stress-corrosion cracking. The high percentage of nickel maintains an austenitic structure so that the alloy is ductile. The standard product forms of Incoloy 800 are pipes, tubes, sheets, rods, plates and wires among others.
Normally used in temperatures up to 1100° F, Incoloy alloy 800 is used in a variety of applications that involve exposure to high temperatures and corrosive environments. It is used for heat-treating equipment such as baskets, trays and fixtures, in chemical and petrochemical processing the alloy for making heat exchangers and other piping systems in nitric acid media and even in nuclear power plants for steam-generator tubing. Other uses of Incoloy 800 include the production of paper pulp, digester liquid heaters, in making appliances for sheathing of electric heating elements and in petroleum processing for manufacturing heat exchangers.
