WHAT IS STAINLESS COPPER NICKEL?

Copper-nickel, which is also known as Cupronickel is an alloy made of copper and nickel in addition to strengthening elements, such as iron and manganese. It shows high general resistance to crevice corrosion and stress corrosion due to chlorides, high resistance to stress corrosion cracking in seawater, strong pitting resistance. Copper nickel alloy can be easily welded and fabricated.

This alloy is greatly resistant to corrosion in seawater, as its electrode potential is adjusted to be neutral with regard to seawater. This reason makes it helpful in piping systems, heat exchangers as well as for manufacturing marine hardware. It is also used for making propellers, crankshafts and hulls of premium tugboats, fishing boats and other working boats.

One of the special features of the Copper-Nickel alloy is that all of its components are completely soluble in the other. It means that, at any composition and temperature, the phases occurring are compositionally homogeneous and composed of both Cu and Ni, making this alloy an Isomorphous alloy.
